POLEGATE WINDMILL

Polegate Windmill, built in 1817 is the oldest working Tower Mill in East Sussex and has a rare five-bladed fantail. The four storey tower holds much of its old wooden machinery, together with three pairs of millstones and working machinery including a Eureka grain cleaning machine, a Wire machine for sieving meal and, on the ground floor, three oat crushers.

It is a Grade II* listed building and is owned by The Eastbourne & District Preservation Trust Ltd - Company Number 00844283  (a registered charity - Charity No: 243934).

John Flude is the Chairman of the Polegate Windmill Council who manage the Mill on behalf of the Trust and Company Secretary of The Eastbourne & District Preservation Trust Ltd.

The galleries in the sub-directories (use directories on the left hand side) show the external features of the Mill, the internal workings and the Mill museum on the ground floor of the Mill complex. A separate gallery shows maintenance to the sweeps in May 2009.

In general - Open Easter to end of October, every Sunday and Holiday Monday + Wednesdays in August.
2 pm to 5 pm.

WILLINGDON & JEVINGTON IN BLOOM COMPETITION 2008

Polegate Windmill won a SilverAward in the Willingdon & Jevington in Bloom Competition - Environmental Projects section.  The award was received by the Chairman - John Flude - on 5 September 2008.  The presentation was made by the Chairman of the Willingdon & Jeveington Parish Council.
