WATER LEVEL INVESTIGATION AT THE PELLS, LEWES FOR LEWES TOWN COUNCIL

The Pells at Lewes suffered from low water levels in a recent very dry period.  John Flude investigated the water source to The Pells lakes and advised Lewes Town Council on the way ahead.  Agreement was reached with the Environment Agency  (EA) to be able to supplement the water in The Pells (when needed) using an adjacent borehole that was, at the time, not fully utilised.  No increase in licenced abstraction was required.  An overall hydrogeological survey of the surrounding area was carried out with data gathered from both South East Water and Southern Water Services and observation borehole data from the EA.  The operation of the springs feeding the Winterbourne were understood and hence the mechanism of spring feeds explained to the Town Council members.  A Power Point presentation was given on the findings and recommendations to a full council meeting.
