CUCKMERE HAVEN

A series of pictures showing the cliffs and the ox-bow formations of the old river course.

 

  

FOAM AT BIRLING GAP, EAST SUSSEX 31 JANUARY 2008

Following a gale the whole of the Birling Gap beach was covered by foam thought to be the result of a marine algal bloom.  The following pictures were taken on 31 Janury 2008.

 

 

 

ICE PRINCE TIMBER 22 JANUARY 2008

On 13 January 2008 the MV Ice Prince in a position 27 nm south east of Start Point, Devon reported that her cargo of timber had shifted resulting in a 25-35° list to port.  The vessel sank on 15 January 2008 26 nm SSE of Portland Bill.  The vessel was carrying some 5000 tons of sawn timber of which around 2500 tons was on deck.  An estimated 2000 tons broke free when she sank.  This timber was washed up along the coast, the majority being washed ashore along Worthing seafront.
