In June 2004 a trip to Switzerland, staying in Interlaken, afforded the opportunity to visit the Lauterbrunnen valley and make the journey by train to the Junfraujoch and ascend to the Spinx at 3571 m (11782 feet).  Our holiday was very wet with low cloud and rain but Max Ritter (from Hotel Beausite, Interlaken) kindly provided the view of the Mönch and the Jungfrau, snow covered, in the sunshine.

Lauterbrunnen is a classic U-shaped glaciated valley with 'hanging' waterfalls.  From the Jungfraujoch viewing platform the Mönch, Jungfrau and the Aletsch glacier could be seen.
